The Wood River Seed Library will hold its annual Seed & Plant Exchange from 10 a.m.-noon today, Saturday, May 29, at the Upper Big Wood River Grange at 609 S. 3rd Avenue in Hailey.
Gardeners may help themselves to seeds and starts of both warm season and cold season plants. And they are encouraged to exchange their own plant starts and any perennials they are digging up from their garden, including vegetables, herbs, medicinal plants, grains and flowers.
The Seed Library has sprouting broccoli, alfalfa, onion and pea shoot seeds to offer, among other things.
Farmers from Itty Bitty Farm, Lookout Farm and Squash Blossom Farm will be selling plant starts.
“We are so happy that these three relatively new and young farmers are responding to the demand of local gardeners to offer plant starts grown locally, of the varieties that grow best in our high altitude climate, with a short growing season and cold nights. These farmers have worked hard to rise up to the challenge of starting new businesses to feed us well, and make our local economy more resilient,” said Manon Gaudreau, who co-chairs the Wood River Seed Library with Amy Mattias.
Donations to the Seed Library are welcome. For information, email woodriverseedlibrary@gmail.com
