Museum Tours Feature Works of 60 Ceramicists, Photographers and Printmakers
Scott and Carol Glenn, who is a polished ceramicist in her own right, share a moment with Jim Romberg, who has taught Raku—a form of Japanese pottery—around the world. Even the artist Christo took one of his classes when he taught at the Sun Valley Center for Arts.

The Sun Valley Museum of Art will offer two free tours of its new visual arts exhibition, “Clay, Silver, Ink: Sun Valley Center at 50,” at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13.

The exhibition, guest-curated by ceramics meister Jim Romberg and photographer Peter de Lory, showcases artwork made by 60  artists who taught at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts in the 1970s and ‘80s. Many of the labels include quotes from the artists reflecting on their experience at The Center.

A slideshow of student work and snapshots from the era is also included in the exhibition.

“It’s remarkable to see this history compiled,” said SVMoA Artistic Director Kristin Poole. “The exhibition offers an opportunity to reflect on the role our organization played in launching the careers of dozens of artists and to trace the history of the organization itself, from a teaching institution to an accredited museum.”

The Sun Valley Museum is celebrating its Golden Anniversary this year. It launched in 1971, luring students from around the world to attend workshops in ceramics, photography and printmaking taught by nationally and internationally known instructors.

The exhibition runs through July 31 at the museum at 191 Fifth Street East in Ketchum. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and admission is free.

Additional tours will be held on Thursday, June 17, and Thursday, July 8. Face masks and social distancing are in effect.
