Nearly 200 patients in need of blood will benefit from friends’ affection for a Ketchum man.

Sixty-two donors turned out for the Steve Adam Memorial Blood Drive with Higher Ground this year. In doing so, they honored the memory of Steve Adam, an enthusiastic volunteer with Higher Ground Sun Valley who died in 2019 while receiving treatment for leukemia.

In honor of his memory, Steve’s widow Lisa Adam and friends decided to give blood last year in 2020. And they reprised their effort this year.

Adam, a mental health professional volunteered his time to help wounded warriors via Higher Ground. He had just passed his PSIA Alpine Level 1 certification so he could teach skiing to veterans in addition to helping them achieve mental wellness several weeks before his death.

“Steve loved working with the veterans and the veterans loved him,” said George Caton, the Blood Program Leader for Higher Ground.

This year’s donors donated enough blood to help as many as 189 patients who need whole blood or blood products.

And—get this—you can mark your calendar if you want to join in the effort next year.

“We plan on doing the Steve Adam Memorial Blood Drive with Higher Ground again next year on May 4, 2022,” said Caton.
