Ever wonder how Peter Pan learned to fly? How Captain Hook lost his hand?
Get the backstory—and live the adventure—when the Sun Valley Community School Players present “Peter and the Starcatcher” at 7 tonight and Saturday at the school theater.
The Tony Award-winning play, based on a story by Sun Valley’s own Ridley Pearson and Miami Herald humor columnist Dave Barry, the play features it all from bumbling pirates, a boy with no name and a very special girl who helps him feel loved for the first time in his life.
You’ll learn how the Lost Boys started out as orphans—"the most useless creatures on earth cast out by mothers who can’t feed ‘em or love ‘em.” And you’ll learn how Molly--the forerunner of Wendy--is insufferably bright and insatiably curious.
It’s a difficult play to stage, requiring precision verbal timing on the part of all the players set to a different rhythm. And the difficulty is compounded by the vast amount of work they must do to simulate oceans waves and the like.
But they pull it off admirably, and even their director Kevin Wade doubles not only as director but keyboard and conga drum player.
Tickets are $6 for students and $12 for adults, available at www.communityschool.org/news/events and at the door.
