Check out the short films nominated for the 2020 Academy Awards when the Sun Valley Museum of Art presents the Oscar Shorts.
The Museum will present all the Oscar-nominated shorts over four days: Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 5 and 6, and Wednesday and Thursday Feb. 12 and 13. The screenings will be held twice each day—at 4:30 and 7 p.m. at the Magic Lantern Cinemas in Ketchum.
Live action shorts will be shown on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Animated shorts will be shown on Thursday, Feb. 6.
Two different lineups of documentary shorts will be shown on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 12 and 13.
Shorts are defined as an original motion picture that runs 40 minutes or less.
“Our presentation of the Oscar-nominated shorts is a unique opportunity for local film buffs to see each and every short film that has been nominated for an Oscar this year,” said Kristine Bretall, director of performing arts at the museum. “Outside of this venue, and our special screening of the Manhattan Short Film Festival in October, short films can be difficult if not impossible for the general public to see.”
Many of the films are from outside the United States and offer viewers glimpses into the cultures and film-making styles of other countries, Bretall added.
Patrons can check www.svmoa.org for detailed information about which short films will be screened. The animated shorts may not be suitable for children.
Tickets for each screening are $10 for members of the Sun Valley Museum of Art and $12 for nonmembers. They may be purchased in advance at www.svmoa.org or at the museum’s box office at 191 Fifth Street East in Ketchum.
