National Alpine Championships Starts Today at Sun Valley

This is the fourth time since 2016 that Sun Valley Resort has hosted the U.S. Alpine National Championships.

Olympic medalist River Radamus returns to Sun Valley to test his mettle against Bald Mountain’s steep slopes for the third time when Sun Valley Resort hosts the 2024 Toyota U.S. Alpine Championships Wednesday through Sunday.

Other athletes joining him include George Steffey, Kyle Negomir, Sawyer Reed and Sun Valley’s Jack Smith and Colin Hanna.

Female skiers include Liv Moritz, Mary and Elisabeth Bocock, AJ Hurt, Paula Moltzman and Tricia Mangan.

These elite skiers will be joined by the next-generation ski racers vying places on the U.S. National Team in what is the final competition on the National ski racing circuit in the 2023-24 season.

The racing, presented by Stifel, kicks off today—Wednesday, March 20--with the Men’s and Women’s Super G, finishing on the Greyhawk run on Baldy. There is no charge to watch.

9 a.m. Men’s Super G (FIS) followed by awards ceremony

12:30 p.m. Women’s Super G (FIS) followed by awards ceremony

THURSDAY, March 21

9 a.m. Men’s Super G (U.S. Championship) followed by awards ceremony

12:30 p.m. Women’s Super G (U.S. Championship) followed by awards ceremony

4:30-7:30 p.m. Opening Ceremonies and Awards for day’s Super G at Ketchum Town Square. Will include Parade of Athletes led by a drum corps, local Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation athletes, a few speeches and live music by the Kris Lager Band.

FRIDAY, March 22

9:30 a.m. Men’s Giant Slalom, Race No. 1

12:30 p.m. Men’s Giant Slalom Race, No. 2

1:30 p.m. Awards Ceremony at Warm Springs Plaza

9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sponsor Village featuring Alpine Championships merchandise and new products at Warm Springs Plaza.

2-5 p.m. Apres Ski Live Music at Warm Springs Plaza by the Aaron Golay Band

2-11 p.m. From 3 to 6 p.m. Kris Lager will play live music. A night of music featuring Freedog, Bryon Friedman, U.S. Ski Team Alum and former National Downhill Champion, will follow from 7 to 11 p.m. at Whiskeys. Admission is free; donations will support the SVSEF Alpine Development Fund.

6:30 p.m. The new documentary “Common Ground,” a sequel to “Kiss the Ground,” will show at the Sun Valley Opera House followed by questions and answers taken by producer Eric Dillon, local regenerative farmer Glenn Elizinga and Amy Mattias of the Sun Valey Institute for Resilience.
