Kendal Mountain Festival Screenings Added, ‘Hockeyland’ to Play, As Well
Friday, November 4, 2022

The Magic Lantern Cinema has added more screenings of the Kendal Mountain Festival, which is making its U.S. debut in 75 cities for the first time in 42 years.

The British version of the Banff Film Festival will make its Ketchum debut at 4:15 and 6:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Magic Lantern Cinema in Ketchum. It will have encore screenings at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday—Nov. 8-10.

The festival features short adventure documentaries and stories with a uniquely British and European slant. This year’s films include one about two women skiing the Haute Route non-stop from Chamonix to Zermatt, wingsuit BASE jumping in New Zealand, the bravery of scientists as they wallow in alligator- and snake-laden water to find the ghost orchid and a poetic reflection of a hundred-mile run around England’s Lake District.

Additionally, Magic Lantern Cinema owner Rick Kessler is excited about this week’s showings of “Hockeyland” and the Thanksgiving holiday classic “Planes, Trains & Automobiles.”

  • “Hockeyland” is a documentary feature out of Minnesota, which treats hockey like Texas does its Friday Night Lights. The film captures the boys of rival communities as they skate for a last chance to etch their names into local lore.

“Hockeyland” will show at 4:15 and 6:50 p.m. today—Friday, Nov. 4. It will have encore showings at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 8-10.

  • “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” is a comedy that stars Steve Martin as a high-strung marketing executive who shares a three-day odyssey of misadventures with a goodhearted but annoying salesman played by John Candy as they try to get to Chicago in time for Martin’s Thanksgiving Day dinner with his family.

Pay attention and you might spot Kevin Bacon as a man running for a taxi.

“Planes, Trains & Automobiles” will show at 4:15 and 6:50 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Nov. 6-7.
