The Sun Valley Museum of Art will show the film “DamNation” tonight, and it will offer three varied  opportunities to see its current visual exhibition reflecting on “Dams: Reservoirs, Reclamation, Renewal” tonight and Friday.

• “DamNation,” which was produced by Patagonia, features majestic cinematography as it showcases rivers and landscapes altered by dams. The film explores the changing national attitude from taking pride in dams as engineering marvels to realizing that they may not be the best for the health of rivers or people’s future.

  The film will be screened at 4:30 and 7 p.m. tonight—Thursday, Nov. 3--at Magic Lantern Cinema in Ketchum. Tickets are $10 for Museum members and $12 for non-members, available at https://ci.ovationtix.com/159/performance/11141733?performanceId=11141733

• The Museum will hold a free evening exhibition tour of its visual arts exhibition at 4:30 p.m. tonight—Thursday, Nov. 3. Participating artist Rachel Teannalach will discuss her four paintings of the dams on the lower Snake River during the tour, and refreshments will be served.

• From 5:30 to 7 p.m. tonight—Thursday, Nov. 3--the Museum will hold an open house for artists and educators to view the exhibition. Attendees will also learn about teaching and learning opportunities at the Museum as the Museum starts a valley-wide artist registry. Refreshments will be served.
• SVMoA Educators Sophie Sawyers and Allison Fluetsch will hold an exhibition tour in a freeMuseum Afterhours from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. The tour will be followed by an activity in the Makers’ Lab. Participants must be 21 or older to imbibe signature cocktails provided by Party Animal.

The “Dams” exhibition is designed to start conversations about the impact of dams on Idaho and the American West. It features the work of Carolina Caycedo, Eirik Johnson, james Prosek and Rachel Teannalach.

The museum is located at 191 Fifth Street E. in Ketchum Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free.
