Seal coat maintenance will begin Monday along a five-mile stretch of the bike path from Hulen Meadows to the Timber Trestle Bridge in Ketchum.
Work is scheduled through Friday, Sept. 16, beginning at Hulen Meadows.
It will also include the paving aprons at the Saddle Road intersection, the 4th Street intersection and the stretch from Serenade Lane where the trail intersects from the north and south.
These parts of the trails will be closed during the seal coating process. Alternative routes may not be suitable for road bikes, rollerblades and nighttime travel.
Seal coating involves applying an asphalt emulsion to seal the surface, which can crack and become porous over years of use. The process preserves the trail’s smooth surface.
Trail users must stay off the new surface for 48 hours as wet seal coating material will ruin shoes, clothes, bikes, rollerblades and the rail surface.
