STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Congressman Mike Simpson will be honored during the Sawtooth Society’s 25th Sagebrush Soiree on Aug. 4.

The Soiree will be held at 6 p.m. at Reuben and Susan Perin’s home on Goat Creek Way in Iron Creek west of Stanley.

The evening will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and live music. That’ll be followed by a sit-down dinner with wine pairings, a live auction and a rolling pledge to support the preservation and protection of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, which is celebrating its 50th birthday this summer.

Simpson will be honored with the Society’s inaugural “Champion of the Sawtooths” award for his contributions to the protection of the SNRA. Simpson helped galvanize support to designate the Jim McClure-Jerry Peak, White Clouds and Hemingway-Boulders as wilderness areas.

His work helped sensure the preservation of 275,665 acres of fragile high-mountain backcountry with crystal lakes and abundant wildlife for generations to come.

More recently, Simpson has been championing the Columbia Basin initiative, to restore the migration of salmon and steelhead between the Pacific Ocean and their historic breeding grounds near Redfish Lake.

Tickets to the Soiree are $350, available at https://one.bidpal.net/sawtooth2022/welcome. A limited number of $500 premium tickets are available for cocktails & conversations with Simpson from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Sawtooth Society was established in 1997 to preserve, protect and enhance the SNRA, which includes 756,000 acres of mountain beauty, 900 miles of trails and more than 300 lakes. The Society facilitates stewardship and volunteer programs to maintain trails and more.
