Sun Valley Music Festival Music Institute Students to Perform
Friday, April 29, 2022

About 20 student musicians with the Sun Valley Music Festival’s Music Institute will offer a free 90-minute Honors Recital at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Ketchum.

This is the first in-person spring Honors Recital since 2019.

The recital will feature outstanding string, piano and voice students performing solo and in small ensembles. Participants auditioned for a panel of music educators and represent all ages in the Institute’s year-round programs for students in grades 4 through 12.

The students selected the works they will perform with help from their music instructors. There’ll be music from such composers as Vivaldi, Beethoven, Bach and Mozart, along with contemporary works.

The evening will culminate, as always, with the presentation of the Carol Nie Outstanding Music Student Award, which is named for former Festival Board President Carol Nie, who founded the Music Institute’s year-round programs. The award, which includes a financial gift of $1,000 to further the student’s music studies, is based on musicianship, enthusiasm and passion for music.

Meanwhile, registration continues for the Sun Valley Music Festival’s summer education programs, which take place July 25 through Aug. 6 during the Festival’s Summer Season concerts at the Sun Valley Pavilion.
