The world premiere of “Across the River and Into the Trees,” an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s final novel and New York Times bestseller, will headline the Sun Valley Film Festival’s opening night on Wednesday, March 30.

Liev Schreiber, who starred in the film, will attend the world premiere at The Argyros with the film’s producer Robert MacLean and other cast and crew. And he will take part in a free Coffee Talk at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31.

The film directed by award-winning Spanish director Paula Ortiz resonates with Sun Valley’s cultural history, given that Hemingway made his home in Sun Valley along the Big Wood River.

“Hemingway came to Sun Valley to hunt and fish, to write and socialize, and the area is forever tied to the legacy of this most quintessential of American novelists,” said Teddy Grennan, founder and executive director of the Sun Valley Film Festival.

Filmed in Venice, Italy, during lockdown, the semi-autobiographical story follows the story of an American Army officer played by Schreiber who was damaged physically and mentally by the war. His plans to spend a quiet weekend in Venice are upended by a chance encounter by a remarkable young woman

The screening at 6 p.m. at the Sun Valley Opera House will include a question and answer with Liev Schreiber, Director Paula Ortiz and Producer Robert McLean.

While “Across the River” headlines opening night, the 11th annual Sun Valley Film Festival actually kicks off with National Geographic’s “Fire of Love,” which screens at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at The Argyros.
