BY KAREN BOSSICK

The City of Ketchum will hold its annual Winter Solstice Celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec., 21 at Ketchum Town Square.

A local astronomer will provide a telescope for stargazers to gain clarity. And there will be music  by DJ Locomotive and food and drink provided by local vendors, including complimentary cocoa and cookies at Leroy's..

The event celebrates Central Idaho’s designation as America’s First Gold-Tier International Dark Sky Reserve.

The Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve is one of the last large pools of natural nighttime darkness left in the United States. It encompasses 906,000 acres, or 1,416 square miles, stretching from Elmore cunty to Custer County with Ketchum, Sun Valley, Stanley, and Smiley Creek right smack dab in the middle.
