Meet the Fleet—or, rather, the fire engines, police cars, airplanes and helicopters and heavy equipment used at Friedman Memorial Airport—on Saturday.
Police, firefighters and others will parade out the man-sized “Tonka toys” from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Friedman Memorial Airport.
The Kiwanis Club of Hailey will provide free hot dogs, burgers and beverages. And attendees can enter a raffle to win an introductory flight lesson with local flight instructor John Strauss.
Parking will be validated free of charge.
SUN VALLEY POLICE CHIEF PASSES
Sun Valley’s Chief of Police Mike Crawford passed away at his home on Tuesday following an illness of several months.
Crawford served the city for more than 30 years, most recently as police chief.
“He was well respected for his dedication, professionalism and sharp sense of humor,” said Sun Valley Mayor Peter Hendricks. “He was kind to everyone he encountered and volunteered for many years with such organizations as the Special Olympics and Higher Ground. His kindness, demeanor and dedication to public service creates a long-lasting legacy and he will be sorely missed.”
Wood RIVER FIRE SEEKS NEW STATION
The Wood River Fire & Rescue recently held an informational meeting regarding the $17 million fire station bond it is asking voters to approve to finance a new fire station on the north end of Hailey near the Life Church.
Fire Chief Ron Bateman says the current station at 117 Walnut St. lacks the space needed for equipment. And one of the three firefighters on shift at any one time must sleep on a Murphy bed next to the kitchen table.
