When Kim Donald looked out and saw a magnificent big bull elk in her back yard south of Ketchum, she opened the sliding door to take a picture.
Her pup—Kahlua—did more.
The pup scampered out and walked right up to the bull elk.
“I couldn’t do anything as I had no shoes on and I didn’t want to be kicked or charged by him,” recounted Donald. “But Kahlua was not aggressive at all towards him…. no charging up to him or barking. She just walked up to him.”
Donald watched afraid that the elk would kick or trample Kahlua. But he stood his ground, as calm as he could be. As Kahlua reached him, he bent down to sniff her and she sniffed him. Then Kahlua turned around and walked back into the house as if it was an everyday occurrence to go out and greet him.
“Such a wonderful magical moment in this time of our lives,” said Donald.
