Halloween may be a little muted this year, what with both Halloween Hoopla and Nightmare on Main Street deep-sixed due to COVID.

But there will be a few Halloween happenings this weekend just to inject a little flavor into what some might contend is the Wood River Valley’s favorite day.

  • Magic Lantern Cinemas in Ketchum is presenting the 1993 classic “Hocus Pocus” at 3 today, Saturday and Sunday.

Kids 12 and under in costume will be admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

The film is “a veritable bagful of treats,” according to Hollywood Reporter and “an appealingly old-school Disney comedy,” according to Reel Film Reviews.

It revolves around a teenager who accidentally frees a coven of evil witches in an abandoned house. Now, with the help of a magical cat, his sister and their new friend, he must steal the witches’ book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.

  • Adults, meanwhile can enjoy a Halloween Party with Aaron Golay Band & DJN8 at 9 p.m. Halloween night at Whiskey Jacques in Ketchum.

The Aaron Golay Band will perform downstairs while DJN8 spins on the 1’s and 2’s upstairs.

Doors open at 9 p.m. and entry is $5. And dress up—there is a Halloween contest.

  • Idaho Lumber in Hailey will have free treats for the kids from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Halloween Day.
  • St. Thomas Episcopal Church is holding a trunk or treat from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
