Writing obits is not an afterthought at the New York Times. Obit writers obsess with the right lead. And, if the person is famous enough, they write his or her obituary ahead of time, storing it in a locked filing cabinet tucked away in the Times’ morgue.

Follow along with writers who have composed obituaries for such people as Dick Rich, who developed ground-breaking advertising for Alka-Seltzer, and William P. Wilson, who coached John F. Kennedy for his historic TV debate with Richard Nixon, as the Sun Valley Museum of Art presents “Obit.”

The documentary about these people who sum up long and newsworthy lives in under 1,000 words  will be shown at 4 and 7 p.m. today--Thursday, Oct. 29—at Magic Lantern Cinemas in Ketchum.

Tickets are $10 for members and $12 for nonmembers, available at www.svmoa.org or at 208-726-9491.

FREE EXHIBITION TOUR TONIGHT

The Sun Valley Museum of Art will hold a free exhibition tour of its current exhibition “Gem State” at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. tonight.

Reservations are requested at www.svmoa.org as each tour is limited to 10 participants.

The exhibition considers the geology of Idaho and the American West through art and sculpture.

Another tour will be held in early December.

ICE DANCE INTERNATIONAL GOES ONLINE

After its six-week national tour was cut short by COVID-19 shutdowns earlier this year, Maine-based Ice Dance International (IDI) has returned with an hour-long online event, Touching The Human Spirit, featuring appearances by legendary dance and skating stars, as well as IDI's current roster of competitors and national champions performing brand new choreography, as well as highlights from the 2020 tour. The tour had stops in West Orange N.J., Dover N.H., Portland M.E., Boston, before COVID cancelled stops in Boise, Sun Valley, Park City, and Aspen.

Touching The Human Spirit premieres free on icedanceinternational.org, and includes appearances from Dorothy Hamill, JoJo Starbuck, Kurt Browning, Alissa Czisny, and Edward and Linda Villella. This online special will recount IDI's history and activities across the country and give viewers a chance to support the non-profit company's return to the road in 2021.

The special can be viewed through 6 p.m. tonight.
