The Trailing of the Sheep Festival is planning a Sheep Quilt Project for the Festival’s 25th anniversary in 2021. And it’s seeking squares for the quilt.
The commemorative quilt will be raffled off at the Happy Trails Festival Closing Party on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, to raise funds to produce the festival. If enough pieces are received, multiple quilts may be created.
The quilt squares can be made of any fabric and may be crocheted, knitted or felt. The only requirement is that they showcase something relating to sheep, whether sheep ranching life or the festival.
It goes without saying this is the perfect pandemic activity for valley residents as colder temperatures push people inside.
To take part, contact Sheila Kelley at sheila@trailingofthesheep.org by Oct. 15.
The 2021 Trailing of the Sheep Festival will run Oct. 6-10, 2021 with a folklife fair, cooking classes and more celebrating the 150-plus year tradition of moving sheep from high mountain summer pastures to winter grazing and lambing areas in the south.
