Seal Coating to Close Bike Path
Sunday, August 30, 2020

Bikers, beware!

Blaine County Recreation District will seal coat the Wood River Trail to maintain its smooth surface this week, weather permitting.

The seal coating is expected to begin Monday, Aug. 31, and run through Friday, Sept. 4. It will run from the north side of Fox Acres Road in Hailey to Ohio Gulch Road north of Hailey.

That part of the trail will be closed during the process. Alternative routes may not be suitable for road bikes, rollerblades, bike trailers, dogs or nighttime travel.

Seal coating involves applying an asphalt emulsion to seal the trail surface. It takes about 48 hours to cure following application. Wet seal coating material can ruin shoes, clothes, bikes and rollerblades, not to mention the trail surface.

The City of Sun Valley will resurface the Elkhorn Path from the tunnel under Highway 75 to Morningstar Road in mid-September. That section of the trail will be closed for an anticipated three to four weeks of work

Detours will be made available, but city officials recommend avoiding the area as much as possible.
