Learn to approach basket making as a meditative, as well as art form, when Sally Metcalf leads a three-day Woven Baskets workshop.
The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, through Thursday, July 2, at Sun Valley Museum of Arts’ Hailey classroom.
Workshop participants will learn to weave colorful waxed linen cordage into a small plate or a box with a lid. Students of all experience levels are invited to participate.
Metcalf, who has a master’s degree in fine arts, became interested in basket weaving by observing bird nests. She is particularly excited by its quiet, contemplative quality and its myriad of colors, patterns and organic shapes. She has won numerous awards for her work, which spans 25 years, and her baskets have been published in six books on basketry.
“Her love of weaving is contagious, and her easygoing approach to teaching is warm and inviting,” said Jeanne Knott, visual arts class assistant at SVMoA.
The workshop costs $200 for SVMoA members and $250 for nonmembers. To learn more, visit www.svmoa.org or call 208-726-9491.
