Sun Valley Youth Hockey has put the cap on what may be the most successful year ever.
One which they thankfully completed before the coronavirus shut down sporting activities across the nation.
Both the U18 and U14 boys won state. Their success was followed by the high school team winning State in Boise.
“I can’t remember the last time a team won both U18 state and high school state in the same year,” said John Heinrich.
The team went 5-0 against Boise, Mountain View, Idaho Falls and Moscow high schools.
“Teams from every region of Idaho basically,” said Chad O’Brien, director of Sun Valley Youth hockey.
Both Andrew Nelson and Clayton Elsbree played huge in the net, said O’Brien. Andrew Nelson got the championship win the first weekend and Clayton Elsbree got the win the following weekend.
Youth hockey mirrored the success of the senior Sun Valley Suns hockey team, which lost only two games all year.
“This was an amazing year with only six losses all year—only one which was against a team from Idaho,” said O’Brien. “Everyone from our youngest to oldest stepped up this year. Our seniors have done an amazing job over their four years and have grown so much. They leave a great path for our younger players to follow.”
