STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Won’t do to go without a costume between now and Halloween. As usual, the Wood River Valley is painting itself orange and black with Halloween events galore:

SATURDAY, Oct. 26

  • Sun Valley Resort will hold a HALLOWEEN FALL FESTIVAL from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 in Sun Valley Village.

There’ll be trick-or-treating, live music, horse-drawn wagon rides, a straw maze, pumpkin decorating, ice skating, lawn games, a kid’s train, photo booth and a chance for photo ops with Sunny the Bear.

The festival will conclude with a free showing of “Hotel Transylvania”--about the resort monsters go to get away--at 4 p.m. at the Sun Valley Opera House.

  • Valley of Peace Lutheran Church will offer a TRUNK-OR-TREAT PARTY from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the church at the Woodside Boulevard and Wintergreen Drive in Hailey. There’ll be a costume contest, candy and s’mores.
  • Once Upon a Nightmare—this year’s edition of the BELLEVUE HAUNTED FOREST--will take place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27.

No telling what lurks in the woods this year at the Howard Preserve off Bellevue’s Main Street. Admission is $7 with the money going to maintain the Howard Preserve.

  • “THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW” featuring live acting and singing along to the cult movie classic will offer two showings at The Spot at 220 Lewis St. in Ketchum. The 6:30 p.m. showing is geared for those under 21. Cost is $20. The 10 p.m. showing is for those 21 and older and costs $35, with tickets available at www.spotsunvalley.com. Dress up!
  • NIGHTMARE ON MAIN STREET will close down the highway through Ketchum from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. with DJ Doc Rock, a laser light show and the biggest costume contest in the valley. Admission is free. The costume contest takes place at 10 p.m. with prizes for scariest, sexiest, best group and best overall costume.
  • The Mint in Hailey will offer TARANTINO TERROR NIGHT from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Dress as your favorite Tarantino character and dance to DJ Diva. There’ll be prizes for best costumes. $10 admission.

    SUNDAY, Oct. 27

  • FAMILY HALLOWEEN ON ICE will offer free admission for skating from 1 to 4 p.m.at Campion Ice house. Skate rental costs $5.

There’ll be prizes for best costumes during a costume contest at 2:30 p.m.

  • THE BELLEVUE HAUNTED FOREST comes alive again from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

    THURSDAY, Oct. 31

  • A thousand youngsters are expected to flood Hailey’s Main Street for HAILEY’S HALLOWEEN HOOPLA.

Merchants will be offering treats from 3 to 5 p.m. during the event organized each year by The Chamber. And the Kiwanis Club will preside over an ongoing costume contest at the Liberty Theatre.

  • Bellevue’s Trunk or Treat will run from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the bike path near the Bellevue Library. There’ll be a costume contest, food, drinks and, of course, treats served up from the community-minded folk lined up on the street.
