Local artists have turned 14 denim jackets into wearable works of art in support of the equine therapy at Swiftsure Ranch.

The custom designed jackets covered in rhinestone and crystals will be auctioned off at the 29th annual Cowboy Ball being held Thursday night.

The ball will start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Swiftsure Ranch Therapeutic Equestrian Center at 114 Calypso Lane south of Bellevue. The festive occasion will include dinner and dancing to raise money for the free horseriding programs provided to those with physical, emotional or other challenges.

“Fashions for a cause is a trendy thing right now, and denim is in style year round. So, women looking for something special will find it at the ball,” said Molly Boomer, the ranch’s interim executive director.

This year’s ball may be the most festive Cowboy Ball yet, said Boomer, a business and psychology major who moved from Texas recently after her husband Brian Boomer accepted a job as clubhouse manager at the Valley Club.

Pinatas with colorful South American tassels will be available for ball-goers to take a swing at. The 18 equine therapists will be on hand to schmooze guests in person, perhaps given them a big hot kiss in hopes the guests will sponsor some or all of them.

And the food will be served up farmers-market style with food provided by Dang’s Thai Cuisine, Smokey Bone Barbecue, Silver Fox Catering, Rasberrys, Bistro, The Power House and Bigwood Bread. Complimentary cocktails include one featuring Blue Ice & Bubba’s Brown Spice liquors.

The Robbie Walden Band, headed by a Hailey man, will parade out Texas/Red Dirt songs from their recently released album “When the Rooster Crows” for those who want to sashay around the arena after dinner.

The ball covers about half of the ranch’s programs which benefit people with Parkinson’s Disease, traumatic brain injury and other challenges.

The ranch has a variety of programs, including Camp Horsepower--several themed four-day camps for school-aged children that focus on jumping, dressage, barrel racing, drilling and sorting cows. New this year is a partnership with NAMI’s Bluebird program for teenagers.

Also new this year is Senior Fun Friday, a partnership with Silvercreek Living and The Senior Connection, which brings seniors to the ranch to interact with the horses.

The ranch is currently providing more than 110 lessons a week. Its clientele includes the students at the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind, Camp Rainbow Gold campers and veterans taking part in Higher Ground and Boise VA programs.

Cowboy Ball tickets are $175, available at www.swiftsureranch.org/2019-cowboy-ball Or, call 208-578-9111. Complimentary shuttle service will be provided by The Silver Dollar.
