Check out the yuccas, cacti, buckwheats, penstemons and other xeric species at Orton Botanical Garden when the Wood River Chapter of the Idaho Native Plant Society hosts a free field trip to Twin Falls.
Field trippers will also visit Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake during their sojourn on Saturday, June 1.
The trip will start at the Timmerman Hill rest stop at Highways 20 and 75 at 8:30 a.m. where participants will divvy up into car pools.
From there they will travel to the garden, located at the west end of Filer Avenue for a tour led by Lamar Orton. The walk around the garden is considered easy, and plants will be for sale during the garden’s annual plant sale.
Following a picnic brown bag lunch, the group will then head to Shoshone Falls and a mile-long hike at Dierkes Lake. That walk is considered moderate because of stairs.
The group plans to return to the Timmerman Hill rest stop by 4 p.m.
