Food System Analyst Ken Meter of Crossroads Resource Center will present his findings about the state of the food system in the wood River Valley on Thursday, May 16.
Meter came to the valley in 2018 to assess the food system at the invitation of the local Food Alliance, which is under the umbrella of the Sun Valley Institute. The idea was to learn how to create a community-based food system that would create systems of exchange that would bring food producers and food consumers.
Strategic focus areas include establishing a wholesale producer partnership to increase local food access and ensure the long-term success of the Wood Rivers Farmer’s Market.
Sixty-one people were interviewed—48 percent of them were food producers.
There will be a discussion of a new Community Food System Strategic plan for the wood River Valley from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Community Campus. Those who can’t make the morning event can attend a second presentation from 5:30 to 7 p.m. that evening at the Sawtooth Brewery in Ketchum.
The event is free. Register at http://stateofourfoodsystem.eventbrite.com.
The event is sponsored by the university of Idaho Extension, Sun Valley Institute, Local Food Alliance, Blaine County Food Council, Western SAFE (Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education), The Hunger Coalition, Blaine County and the Sawtooth Brewery.
