It’s the funnest basketball four feet can provide.

Wood River High School will host a Donkey Bash at 6 tonight—Wednesday, April 24—to raise money for its safe and sober Senior Bash on graduation night.

Students astride donkeys will ride up and down the court attempting to score baskets from their steeds.

The fun starts at 6 p.m. at the Wood River High School gymnasium. Tickets are $10 for adults if purchased in advance at the Wood River High School office and $12 at the door. They’re $6 and $7 for those ages 7 through 12 and $4 and $5 for those in kindergarten through fifth grade. Those under 5 will be admitted free.

An evening of arcade games, casino tables, inflatable games and a photo booth will be coupled with plenty of food and beverages from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at the Community Campus in Hailey. The Sun Valley Auto Club will donate a car as the grand prize, and other prize drawings will be drawn throughout the night for such college essentials as office and desk supplies, electronics, storage and room supplies, kitchen items, clothing, sports and camping equipment, small appliances and computers.

The Senior Bash is modeled after Project Graduation, a nationally recognized substance-free party designed to give high school graduates a safe alternative to celebrating their graduation. Statistically, graduation nights are one of the most dangerous nights for teens because of the drinking that is often involved in unsanctioned post-graduation parties.

Parents involved in the Wood River High School Parent Teacher Student Association have organized the Senior Bash for graduates from Wood River High School, Silver Creek High School, Sage School, Carey High School and Sun Valley Community School for two decades.

It costs about $150 per graduate to host the event with individuals and local businesses donating cash and other contributions.
