Casey Wilder Mott has been appointed executive director of The Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum.

Mott takes over from his father Tim Mott, who has been serving as interim director since the inaugural director Doug Rankin left shortly after the new center opened in late November 2018.

Board of Directors Chair Bill Lowe said that Mott, a filmmaker and creative team leader, had been selected following a national search led by Greg Phillips of CSTAR Development. One of the things that made him an easy—and unanimous--choice for the board was his commitment to the arts, combined with his deep familiarity with the local community, Lowe said.

Mott, who celebrated the birth of his new son Walker Blackwood Mott this past week, completed high school at what is now the Sun Valley Community School in 1999. That same year he became a founding company member of the Sun Valley Shakespeare Festival.

He produced The Argyros’ three-day opening showcase, which included a gala evening featuring Peter Cetera, a Sun Valley resident who rose to prominence with the group Chicago.

Mott also screened his film “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the 2018 Sun Valley Film Festival, during which he gave a shout-out to The Argyros. Mott’s father was integral in saving the nexStage Theatre years ago and seeing The Argyros brought to fruition.

Mott received his BA degree from Yale University and an MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He started working in Hollywood at the William Morris Agency before becoming director of development at Flashlight Films.

He founded 5B Productions, an independent film production company based in Los Angeles, in 2015. His feature film credits under that banner include the documentary “The University,” about NASA teaming up with Google to launch Singularity University, a school for futurists. It also includes the SXSW/A24 drama “Hot Summer Nights,” an American crime drama, and Mott’s directorial debut “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Mott said he will cease working with 5B Productions once he leaves Los Angeles, handing over the company to  his partners.

“I’ve watched and cheered from afar as the long-held dream of a world-class performing arts center in downtown Ketchum has become a reality,” said Mott. “The Argyros’ talented staff and its dedicated board have done a fantastic job getting the facility on its feet. I hope I bring enthusiasm, experience and a community-centric approach that will build on the organization’s early success. I’m coming home!”

The 25,000-square foot Argyros includes a state-of-the-art theater with variable seating up to 462, a studio performance space and café. It has presented local, national and international artists since its opening. And it has featured a wide range of programs running form the Banff Film Festival to Comedian Dan Hoyle and the Sun Valley Music Festival’s inaugural Winter Festival.

Mott will take up the reins in Sun Valley in May following a bit of paternity time.
