Ziggy Marley and Jackson Browne are among the hit makers the Sun Valley Center for the Arts has lined up for its 2019 Summer Concert Series.
- Michael Franti and Spearhead will join Ziggy Marley on June 24.
Franti has appeared in Sun Valley several times, touting his yoga and world peace philosophy. He has participated in several musical projects with a political and social emphasis, including one called the disposable heroes of Hiphoprisy, which sang politically charged lyrics railing against world injustice set to industrial music.
His band blends hip hop with funk, reggae, jazz, folk and rock.
Marley is a Jamaican musician, the son of reggae icon Bob Marley.
- Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats will perform on July 24, joined by the band Lucius.
Rateliff is a Denver-based singer-songwriter who performs with a soulful R&B combo he formed six years ago.
Their songs include “You Worry Me,” which is powered by guitars, a throbbing bass and horns.
The band Lucius is a four-piece indie pop band based in Los Angeles that has won critical acclaim from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR and Village Voice. Look to hear such songs as “Pulling Teeth” and “The Punisher.”
- Jackson Browne will perform on Aug. 5. Browne, who came to prominence in the 1970s, was ranked 37th in Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.”
Born in Heidelberg, Germany, where his father was stationed with the Stars and Stripes newspaper, he joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1966. He left after a few months to write such songs as “Shadow Dream Song” and “These Days,” which were recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Joan Baez, the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, the Byrds and others.
One of his biggest hits was “Take it Easy,” cowritten with the Eagles’ Glenn Frey, followed by “Running on Empty,” which became his biggest commercial success.
Tickets go on sale to Center members first. Series package tickets go on sale to Center members at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2. Individual concert tickets go on sale to members only at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 9.
Remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 16.
