Multiple Grammy nominee Martina McBride will take the stage at the Sun Valley Pavilion on Monday as the ever-lengthening summer concert season at Sun Valley Resort goes on.
Some tickets remain for the Aug. 27 concert, which starts at 8 p.m.
The 52-year-old, who grew up on a dairy farm in Sharon, Kan., got her start singing along to the records of Patsy Cline and Reba McEntire before singing with her father’s band at age 8.
She came to the attention of Garth Brooks after her husband John McBride joined Brooks’s sound crew, later becoming his concert production manager.
Brooks offered her the chance to be his opening act, provided she could obtain a recording contract. Her husband chipped in, helping her produce a demo tape. She landed a recording contract with RCA Nashville Records, and soon she was racking up such hits as “My Baby Loves Me,” “Lie No. 9,” “Safe In the Arms of Love,” “Happy Girl” and “I Love You.”
McBride, who has collected 14 Grammy Award nominations, has sold more than 18 million albums, which include 14 Gold Records, twenty Top 10 singles and six No. 1 hits.
Known as the Celine Dion of country music, she has been named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Association four times and Top Female Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music thrice.
She was honored with the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award in 2003 and the 2015 Harry Chapin Memorial Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic efforts on behalf of domestic violence.
She has served as a spokeswoman for the National Domestic Violence Hotline. And she partners with non-profit causes addressing hunger relief, cancer research, children in need and combating domestic violence in many of the towns she performs through her Team Music is Love charity initiative which, she says, is about spreading love through music.
