It wasn’t horse play for several young equestrians from the Wood River Valley.
Seven Wood River Valley equestrians competed against more than 80 riders from Utah, Idaho, Washington and Wyoming at the 31st Annual Golden Spike Horse Trials this past week in Ogden, Utah.
And six placed in the top four at the U.S. Eventing Association-recognized event, which was sponsored by the Wasatch Pony Club.
- Lisa Mary, Bellevue, took second in Introductory.
- Parker Turck, a Community School student, took second and Adisyn Mary, a Wood River Middle School student, fourth in Junior Beginner Novice.
- Jodie Willow Maguire, a Sage School student, took second and Willa Laski, a Sage School student, third in Junior Novice,
- Meghan Faherty, of Bellevue, took third in Senior Novice.
Also competing was Jordyn Mary, a Wood River High School/Otterbein University student.
The team trains out of River Sage Stables in Bellevue, which is also home to Sawtooth Pony Club. Team members compete at various shows throughout the year.
The trainer is Sarah Berkowitz, Bell Mountain Farm’s coach and trainer. Berkowitz is a Pony Club graduate and a USEA ICP Level II certified eventing instructor who has competed on her homebred mare.
Belle Mountain Farm hosts several jumping and dressage shows at River Sage Stables throughout the year.
