What’s the best Mexican restaurant in the Gem State?
It’s right here in the Wood River Valley, according to Debra Waters, who concocted the list for the “LoveFood.”
Despo’s is not only lauded for its award-winning salsa, which is made daily, but it’s well regarded for its focus on nutrition and regionally sourced ingredients, said Waters.
“The tortilla soup comes highly recommended, while the street-style tacos and house favorite like the substantial burritos hit the spot with locals,” she added.
Other restaurants that made the list of best Mexican restaurants in every state included the Mayan Cafe, which serves authentic Mayan food in Louisville, Ky.; Juan’s Flying Burrito with its pineapple chicken tacos in New Orleans, and Taco Escobar with its chipotle sweet potato taquitos and fruit-infused tequilas in Portland, Maine.
Closer to home, Nuestra Cocina got the thumbs up for its chile relleno and sautéed beef tips with chipotle mole in Portland, Ore. The Red Iguana in Salt Lake City was touted for its braised pork gringas and irresistible moles.
And Mezcaleria Oaxaca in Seattle was praised for its mole negro and cabrito (goat).
