Today’s May Day. So that means it’s time for Operation Clean Sweep.
The Environmental Resource Center is conducting its 24th annual Clean Sweep from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5.
And it’s inviting community members to turn out to pick up litter from Ketchum through Bellevue.
Come as an individual or come as a team.
Trout Unlimited, for instance, is putting together Team TU open to all comers to clean up a well-used section of the Big Wood River.
And the local National Interscholastic Cycling Association Team and Wood River Bike Coalition plan to adopt Croy Road where they’ve been working on bicycle trails.
Participants are invited to check in at 9 a.m. at one of three locations:
*The ERC Office In Ketchum, 471 Washington Ave. N.
* KB’s in Hailey, 121 N. Main St.
* Bellevue’s Memorial Park between Cedar and Elm streets.
Trash bags, doughnuts and coffee will be provided at each location. After fanning out, participants are invited to return to their starting places at 11:30 a.m. for free burritos provided by KB’s.
There also will be raffle drawings and prizes awarded for the most unusual items found, best team costumes, most age-diverse group, and most garbage collected
ERC’s Clean Sweep started in 1994 as a way to spruce up the valley after winter and ahead of the tourist season.
FREE RECYCLING
Cox will collect small electronics (no TVs) and shred confidential documents at its Cox solution Store, 340 Lewis St. in Ketchum, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 4.
