The Silver Creek Writers Residence Prefort is returning to Ketchum with a full weekend of workshops and entertainment.

The second annual writer’s workshop weekend will feature three days of events with writers workshops from Friday, Feb. 23, through Sunday, Feb. 25. Events will be held at the Hot Water Inn at the base of Warm Springs in Ketchum and at the Wood River Community YMCA.

The weekend is presented by the Silver Creek Writers Residency in partnership with Storyfort at Treefort, an annual festival involving music, storytelling and more March 21 through25 in Boise. Silver Creek Writers Residency offers emerging writers the opportunity to work while staying in Ketchum and Sun Valley.

“We hope to continue to build upon our residency program by presenting creative outlets with exceptional guidance for the craft of writing for all writers whenever possible,” said Silver Creek Writers Residency Founder Bill Fowler.

Events kick off at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at the Hot Water Inn with Treefort bands Marshall Poole and Timmy the Teeth. There is a cover charge for non-registered workshop participants.

Workshops begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, with a graphic novel and comic writing session led by Catherin Kyle, followed by a fiction writing workshop led by Idaho Writer-in-Resident and Storyfort Director Christian Winn at the Hot Water Inn.

A slam poetry micro workshop will be led by Tara Brenner and Elena Tomorowitz of Big Tree Arts at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wood River YMCA.

The day will conclude at the Hot Water Inn with a no-host beer and wine happy hour, an open mic slam poetry performance by Big Tree Arts and a raffle, which will be open to the public. A dinner catered by The Haven will be free to workshop attendees and $20 for non-registered guests.

The evening will continue with a Writers Bloc Party open to the public with a cover charge for non-registered guests. Live music will be provided by Treefort bands New Move and Jared Mees & The Grown Children, and Big Tree Arts will present another slam poetry performance.

On Sunday, Feb. 25, nonfiction writer, journalist and professor Tom Zoellner will host a non-fiction writing workshop at 10 a.m. at the Hot Water Inn, followed by a Share ‘n’ Slurp Ramen lunch provided by the Hot Water Inn at 1:30 p.m. There will be three-minute readings for those interested in sharing.

Workshops are $50 a person, limited to 15 people each. The Slam Poetry Micro workshop is $20. There is a $10 pre-order fee for Share ‘n’ Slurp.
