The Community Library’s Sun Valley Museum of History will hold an opening reception for its new exhibit “Champions and Chairlifts.” The Environmental Resource Center will toast the start of its 25th year with open houses tonight.
And the new Ketchum Works will hold an open house, as well.
Sun Valley Museum of History, at First and Washington streets in Ketchum, will open its doors from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
The exhibit, “Champions and Chairlifts: Sun Valley Ski History from 1930 to 2010,” offers exhibits looking at the early years of Sun Valley Resort, which opened in 1936 as America’s first destination ski resort. It also sports fashion and ski equipment by the decades, a selection of cartoons penned by the late ski filmmaker Warren Miller and promotional literature boasting of Sun Valley’s unique place in the sun.
“Our older ski objects—skis, boots, sweaters—tell stories that are full of adventure and daring. Looking at the changes and allure of skiing objects over the decades gives one a perspective of this place and where our passion falls with skiing today,” said Mary Tyson, director of the Regional History department.
The exhibit runs through June 2. Normal hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
The Environmental Resource Center will celebrate the start of its 25th year with an open house from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at its Ketchum office, 471 Washington Avenue.
Staff will offer information about how local animals are affected by this year’s below-average snowpack. They’ll offer attendees a chance to solve animal tracking mysteries. And they’ll answer questions about recycling in the Wood River Valley, while handing out complimentary native seed packets to be put in the ground this spring.
There’ll also be information about the ERC’s upcoming programs and volunteer opportunities.
Complimentary beverages will be served, and all ages are welcome.
Finally, Ketchum Works will hold an open house today from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by a grand opening party from 5 to 7 p.m. The new community work space is located at 191 Sun Valley Road.
