The always popular Ski the Rails scheduled for Feb. 10 has been cancelled this year due to lack of snow on the Wood River bike path running between Ketchum and Hailey.
In its place, the Blaine County Recreation District will offer a Ski Free Day on Saturday, Feb. 10, for Nordic skiers and snowshoers on its trails north of Ketchum.
“We thought about it long and hard. But, truth is, they’re bicycling on the bike path in the South Valley,” said Jim Keating, BCRD director.
Despite warm conditions, trails are holding their own at Durrance and the North Fork Loop behind the Sawtooth NRA headquarters. The Harriman Trail and trails around Galena Lodge, Prairie Creek and Billy’s Bridge have plenty of snow.
The Lake Creek trails, however, are marginal, thanks to the thaw/freeze routine of the past week.
