Hailey resident Sylvia Miller has become a life master in bridge, a rank described by the American Contract Bridge League as “the most highly sought level of bridge achievement.”
The rank requires placing in regional tournaments, as well as in local games. She won the final event needed to become a life master in a recent tournament in Anchorage, where she partnered with her sister Elaine Pollock.
Miller began playing bridge about 20 years ago when she and her siblings decided to treat their mother, a lifelong bridge player, to a bridge cruise for her 80th birthday. The problem was that none of the children played bridge.
“I’m the youngest, so they told me to learn to play bridge and go with Mother,” she said.
There are four duplicate bridge games a week in the Wood River Valley, as well as group and private lessons. For additional information, visit www.sunvalleybridge.com.
