STORY AND PHOTOS BY KAREN BOSSICK

It’s all anybody’s talking about right now.

And, in case you missed all the previous talks, you have four more opportunities to learn all about eclipses and other interesting factoids concerning sun and moon.

And, while the All-American Total Solar Eclipse may last just a minute to two minutes depending on where you are, the parties will last all day long come Monday.

Here’s the lineup for today and tomorrow:

SUNDAY, AUG. 20, NOON—Astronomer Jeff Silverman will speak at the Ketchum Town Square. Silverman is a data scientist at Samba TV. But before that he was a National Science Foundation Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas-Austin. He received his Ph.D. in astrophysics at the University of California-Berkeley where he worked on observations of exploding stars and dark energy.

SUNDAY, AUG. 20, 5:30 p.m.—Dr. Rachel Osten of the American Astronomical Society will speak on “Revealing the Hidden, High-Energy Sun” in the Sun Valley Inn’s Limelight Room. The lecture had previously been scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Sun Valley Opera House.

Olsten is an associate astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Md., and deputy head of the Hubble Space Telescope Mission Office.  Her expertise lies in studying nearby stars as if they’re suns. Olsten will describe what solar features revealed during solar eclipses tell us about the sun and its structure. She will also talk about what astronomers are learning about the nearest stars and their abilities to make good homes for other planets.

SUNDAY, Aug. 20, 6 p.m.—Bryan Brewer, author of “ECLIPSE,” will talk about that subject in Sun Valley’s Boiler Room. The talk is free.

As for the parties:

ECLIPSE-O-RAMA CONCERT: Darol Anger will present unique original music celebrating the eclipse at 8 p.m. tonight at the Sun Valley Opera House. Tickets are $40 in advance and $46.50 the day of available by going to www.sunvalley.com or to Sun Valley’s Recreation Office in the Sun Valley Village.

FESTIVAL MEADOW on Sun Valley Road is expecting about 3,000 people to turn out for a viewing party from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There’ll be yoga, music, an astronomer and children’s activities, such as face painting and wish trees. Food vendors will offer pizza, hot dogs, burritos and brews.

The yoga and music with Tyia Wilson will kick things off at 9 a.m. Ketchum Mayor Nina Jonas and Sun Valley Mayor Peter Hendricks will welcome the crowd at 10:30 a.m. Astronomer Jeff Silverman will offer a talk about the eclipse beginning at about 11 a.m. and talk right up to and through the eclipse. The end of totality will be celebrated with a performance by DJ Corey Caffrey.

SUN VALLEY’S BALD MOUNTAIN is hosting two parties. The first, for VIP ticket holders only, will include a buffet and bloody mary and mimosa bar at the Roundhouse. There’ll be live entertainment no-hosts bars and a barbecue at the top of Bald Mountain. And the Emily Stanton Band will play from noon to 3 p.m.

The resort had to cap the number in order to download people safely in the event of a lightning storm. There will be no lift-served mountain biking that day. People can hike to the top of the mountain, said Lusk. But they will not be allowed to ride the chairs down without a lift ticket.

THE SUN VALLEY PAVILION LAWN will host an Eclipse Party from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A no-host bar with food and beverage specials will begin at 9 a.m. After the eclipse, there will be live entertainment from noon to 3 p.m., a barbecue near the duck pond, Spider Jump, face painting, lawn games and a kid’s train.
