Academy Award winning scriptwriter David Seidler. Actress Mariel Hemingway. And, yes, ECLIPSE.
They’re part of The Library LitWalk 2017.
The literary version of a Gallery Walk, The Community Library’s third annual Lit Walk will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18.
Participants will be invited to stroll through the city of Ketchum, enjoying tastes of literature and food. And they can enter a raffle that contains some unique packages, including one offering a private visit to Ernest and Mary Hemingway’s Ketchum home.
THE COMMUNITY LIBRARY:
With the Lit Walk three days from the Great American Eclipse, the Community Library will turn into Eclipse Central.
Author and eclipse expert Bryan Brewer, whose recently published book, “ECLIPSE,” will help prepare readers for the once-in-a-lifetime event, will discuss the history and science behind the eclipse, in addition to offering suggestions for viewing it.
Brewer will make four presentations at 5, 5:30, 6 and 6:30 p.m.
And participants can explore the celestial universe inside Hemingway School technology teacher’s Scott Slonin’s new Star Lab pop-up planetarian, which was purchased with the help of a donation from the Wood River Women’s Foundation. Star Lab showtimes are 5, 5:20, 5:40, 6, 6:20 and 6:40 p.m.
Free eclipse glasses will be handed out at the library.
KETCHUM’S FOREST SERVICE PARK:
Several writers and actors will tell campfire stories in Ketchum’s Forest Service Park. Diane Josephy Peavey will kick things off at 5 p.m.; Jana Arnold, at 5:15 p.m.; Tony Evans, at 5:30 p.m. and Mariel Hemingway, at 5:45 p.m.
Nick Neely will step up to the campfire at 6 p.m.; Julie Weston, at 6:15 p.m.; David Seidler ,at 6:30 p.m. David Janeski ,at 6:45 p.m. and Sarah Sentilles, at 7 p.m.
Campfire Tales is designed to tie into the current “Firelines” exhibition at the Sun Valley Museum of History that explores wildland fire.
CHAPTER ONE BOOKSTORE:
Authors Vicky Bates, J. Dominic, Carol Glenn, Kate Riley, Patrick Lee and Beth Hardin will present readings from their books throughout the evening.
GOLD MINE AND GOLD MINE CONSIGN:
There’ll be an opportunity to pose as a literary character at the Fiction Fantasy Photo Booth outside the Gold Mine, while the Ukulele Girls will perform tunes at Gold Mine Consign.
CHILDREN’S LIBRARY PARKING LOT:
Kids will get an opportunity to create a star, contribute to a galaxy mural, and take part in a Kids Photo Booth at the Kids Art Fair outside the Children’s Library. The Bloom Library and Food Truck will also be there.
KETCHUM CONFERENCE CENTER:
The Wood River Valley Studio Tour Artists Reception will be ongoing in the Walnut Avenue Mall.
All the activities are free. Those who wish can purchase a food and beverage pass for $15 to enjoy refreshments provided by Sun Valley Resort Catering, Rasberrys, Cristina’s, The Pioneer Saloon, Sawtooth Brewery, Globus, Three Little Pigs, Town Square Tavern, Bread Werks, KB’s, Leadville Espresso House and Albertsons.
A raffle will be held for three package deals:
- “Homage to Hemingway” includes a night in the Hemingway Suite at the Sun Valley Lodge, dinner at the Hemingway table at Michel’s Christiania and a private visit to Ernest and Mary Hemingway’s Ketchum home.
- “Sun Valley Serenade” includes a Sun Valley ski pass and a DVD of the classic movie “Sun Valley Serenade”
- “Life in the Limelight” includes a night at the Limelight Hotel, dinner at Vintage and theater tickets for The Spot.
