Ketchum got a taste of what crowds coming to see the Great American Eclipse could be like this weekend as hundreds of people jammed Ketchum streets for the annual Ketchum Cruise and Block Party.
The display of classic and sports cars, part of the Ninth Annual Sun Valley Road Rally, was held in Festival Meadows on Sun Valley Road.
Mark Nickum drove up in a shiny 1940 Red Ford V8 with a supercharged engine for more power.
Then he pulled out his Smart phone scrolling down to a picture of himself as a young man in a prom suit standing by the same make.
Coming from the ‘40s, the cars are pretty rare,” he acknowledged. “A lot of wax went on this to make it look so shiny.”
Indeed, there was probably a shortage of car wax somewhere in Idaho, given the plethora of sports cars so shiny they were simply blinding in the late afternoon sun.
Jenny Busdon and her grandson Carter Busdon showed off their 1987 Mercedes 560 SL convertible which, by the way, is for sale.
“Nello bought it for me for our 30th wedding anniversary. We’ve been married 62 years so that should tell you something,” said Jenny Busdon. “I wanted a teal color and he found it for me, even though it’s not a common color.”
A Coeur d’Alene man had a little trouble stepping out of his McLaren, given the butterfly doors that open like wings. His date had help getting out of her side.
“It’s hard to get in and out of, but it’s super fun to drive and extremely fast,” he said. “It’s already low to the ground and, when you’re racing it, it drops two inches more.”
