Being a designated Olympic training site has its privileges. One is the privilege of celebrating Olympic Day with various other Olympic training sites across the world.
The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation will celebrate Olympic Day on Wednesday, June 21, and the entire community is invited to participate.
The event will kick off with a Summer Solstice Scavenger Hunt, complete with prizes, from 2:45 to 5 p.m. Teams of five should meet at the Ketchum Town Square at 2:45 p.m. They will have two hours to find 51 clues representing Sun Valley’s 51 Olympians hidden around Ketchum.
A celebration with Olympians and Paralympians will follow from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Among those who plan to attend are Dick Fosbury, who wowed the world with his Fosbury Flop at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico; Hilary Knight, a member of America’s gold medal winning women’s hockey team; 1992 Olympic alpine racer Reggie Crist; ski and handcycle Paralympian Muffy Davis and Nordic racer Jake Adicoff, who is gunning for his second Paralympics in 2018.
There will be live music by High Mountain Heard.
Food and drink will be made available by The Haven, Cellar Pub, Ketchum Grill, David Soares, Sawtooth Brewery, Leroy’s and Toni’s Ice Cream.
Founded in 1966, the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation is the largest youth sports organization in the Wood River Valley. It provides training for more than 675 children involved in alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding and other snow sports.
