Youngsters will “Build a Better World” during this year’s Summer Reading Programs for Children and Teens at Ketchum’s Community Library.
The program begins with a Summer Reading Kick-Off Party from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Children’s Library.
Students entering grades Kindergarten through sixth next fall are encouraged to register, set a reading goal, read and then log their minutes during the summer months.
Those who reach their goal will be entered into a drawing for prizes, including a bike, Go-Pro camera and a Toy Store gift card.
Teens entering grades 7 through 12 are encouraged to register for the Teen Summer Reading Program. Teens can earn tickets by reading, volunteering or attending library programs. The tickets will go into a drawing for gift cards and cash. Those who earn five tickets will be entered into the grand prize drawing for a Go-Pro camera.
Representatives from several non-profits will be on hand Saturday to provide fun activities and showcase how we can build a better community and world in keeping with this year’s theme. Refreshments will be provided.
The summer reading program is designed to help prevent the brain drain or learning loss that often accompanies a few months off from school.
