Today is the last opportunity to sign up at a discounted price for the first-ever Camp Girls on the Run, a pilot program being championed by the national organization.
The camp for girls going into third- through fifth grades is designed to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident.
In the morning girls will explore life skills topics through physical activity, collaborative games and creating expression, including writing, acting and art.
In the afternoon they will work with five organizations to complete a variety of service projects. The organizations are the Hunger Coalition, Blaine County Senior Connection 4H’s Healthy Living Advocates, Hailey Library’s Ticker Time Project and the City of Ketchum’s Sun Valley Solar Eclipse planning.
The weeklong camp culminates with a celebratory event where families can share in the girls’ accomplishments by joining them in a one-mile fun run and watch a creative showcase of their work form the week.
The Wood River Valley chapter was selected as a pilot program for the national organization, which is headquartered in North Carolina.
“We heard about it and applied,” said Mary Fauth, the organization’s executive director. “We’re looking forward to it. The feedback is that it help s girls bond in a concentrated amount of time.”
The camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 24-28 at Hailey Elementary School. Camp is $150 through today. The price goes up $100 afterwards. Scholarships and payment plans are available. Sign up at www.girlsontherunwrv.org/camp.
