Explore the theme of social norms through art, live music and writing when The Advocates’ interns host “Soaring Standards: Navigating Relationships in the Age of Expectations” from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at The Sage School Barn.

The free event is the 11th the ETC (Every Teen Counts) interns have held in conjunction with Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

The ETCs—10 teens who lead educational events for their peers on behalf of The Advocates--will lead fun and engaging educational activities exploring the role of norms and standards in relationships. And Noah Koski, director of compassionate Leaders at Flourish Foundation, will offer a keynote speech addressing the theme.

Those who attend will be entered into a raffle for such prize as gift cards to Java, Knit + Needle and other local businesses. Refreshments will be served, and there will be free swag, as well.

This year’s theme notes that norms and standards influence all types of relationships, including platonic and romantic. We are taught to conform to healthy, unhealthy and abusive norms.

“Teen dating abuse thrives when it is considered normal to check your partner’s text messages, call them names, or track their location. Teens and all community members can promote safe and healthy relationships in our community by choosing to create new social norms that promote respect and equality,” said Monica Reyna, Violence Prevention Coordinator at The Advocates.

The Sage School Barn is located at 1810 Quigley Farm Road in Hailey, and can be reached by driving on Fox Acres Road past Wood River High School and the Quigley Nordic Center.
