Pasta Pups Demonstrate Value of Rocky’s Medical Fund
Wednesday, March 8, 2023

They’re known as the Pasta Pups, and they are seven tiny black and white puppies found abandoned in a box at a nearby livestock auction in single-digit temperatures that could have cut their lives short had they not been rescued quickly.

Mountain Humane’s veterinary team has evaluated and vaccinated them and will spay or neuter them when they are old and robust enough. And several weeks from now staff hope they will be ready for adoption.

Rescues like this demonstrate the need for Rocky’s Medical Fund at Mountain Humane, said Heidi Hayes, the shelter’s communications manager. It costs about $1,000 to provide Ravioli and each of her fellow pups with a health screening, microchip, vaccinations and spay/neuter. That adds up to $7,000 just for this littler.

Currently, Mountain Humane is trying to raise enough donations to meet a $25,000 match offered by Board member Christine Ferguson. All donations to Rocky’s Fund will be matched up to $25,000 through March 31.

In a nutshell—or a doggy bowl--$25 provides a wellness exam, $50 buys formula for a motherless baby kitten, $100 vaccinates a litter of kittens, $250 provides dental care for a pet, $500 helps staff nurse neglected puppies back to health and $1,000 prepares an animal for adoption with spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations and health screening.

Donations can be made online at https://mountainhumane.org/donate/?blm_aid=2329619.

Mountain Humane rescued nearly a hundred pets from hoarding situations this past year, Hayes said. Among them: 52 chihuahua mix pups and 44 more dogs from seven more cases. Happily, the shelter adopted out 24 pets in February alone, including 15 pups and hamsters Bill and Bob.
