It’s a Skinny Ski Mecca Out There
Friday, November 11, 2022

If this was California, we’d say, “Surf’s up.”

Instead, snow’s what’s up. And it’s time to ski!

The Blaine County Recreation District has spent the week packing local Nordic trails from Galena Lodge to Quigley Nordic and the bike path.

And on Thursday the conditions on the Harriman, the Galena trails and the Durrance and Prairie Creek Loop were pretty darn perfect.

Those who spent Monday and Wednesday shoveling as much as 18 inches of heavy gloppy snow out of their driveways have been rewarded with dry fluffy skiable snow north of Ketchum. On Thursday the Harriman Trail near SNRA had a base that couldn’t be beat with a little fluff on top.

Even areas under the trees that typically take a few weeks to get a good base are amply covered.

You can still purchase discounted season passes for BCRD and Sun Valley Nordic trails through Nov. 20 at https://bcrd.org and https://www.sunvalley.com.

And, while Sun Valley Resort is still shooting for a Thanksgiving Day opener, you can start dreaming about the mountain turns in your future by joining in on the fun at Saturday’s Pray for Snow Party at Sun Valley Resort.

To celebrate Sun Valley’s reign as SKI Magazine’s No. 1 Ski Resort for the third year in a row, Sun Valley will host a party from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at River Run Lodge.

Those who bring canned food and healthy dried foods such as pasta and lentils and lightly used winter jackets to donate to the Hunger Coalition will be entered in a raffle that will be ongoing throughout the evening.
